The Downtown Chamber stands in solidarity with the Black community in the fight against systemic racism and injustice---we hear you, and we support you. Our community is engaged and we are encouraged by the dialogue and voices uniting against racism, making it unequivocally clear that Black Lives Matter.
We say this while acknowledging we have a lot of work to do, as an organization and as a community. We cannot stop when protests lessen, and we must not question our role now or in the coming years for eliminating injustice, oppression and inequality. A chamber of commerce is a convener of community leaders and trusted voices across the country, and they can bring disparate perspectives to the table for meaningful local conversations and, more importantly, critical actions.
The Downtown Chamber is committed to first listen and understand, and to move forward boldly to build a path to a better future together with our members and stakeholders. We will strive to be an example and demonstrate ways our diverse business community can stand intentionally against the systemic racism and oppression experienced every day in America.
